Update 0.1.39: Your Own Look, Music, the War Room and Personal Towers

Choose your character's look at a city's Looking Glass, hear music across the world, build a chest and a War Room in your Log Cabin, raise personal towers from your hardened flags, and face a much fiercer Cinderroc.

Update 0.1.39 is rolling out now on Android, iOS and Windows. Everything on the server side is already live, so the moment your app updates you get all of it together: your own look, music, the War Room, personal towers and more. Older versions keep working until the stores have carried the new one for a while.

Server

  • Shield Charge now shows the blue countdown bar above BOTH the charger and whoever was charged, for as long as the two are pinned in place (a thrown net and the Dazed/Brace pins show it too).
  • The Cinderroc fights back for real: it goes after whoever (player or companion) has hurt it most in the last ten seconds, aims its fire at them (five patches spread out, never piled), and every eight seconds beats its wings to hit and pin everything within 20 m for three seconds. Its beak hits twice as hard and its fire burns hotter (double on companions).
  • The Cinderroc heals in a fight: it nests in its own fire every ten seconds and heals while standing in it, drinks health from every enemy it has set alight, and once per fight at 30% health takes to the air for six seconds (untouchable, with a countdown bar) and lands a quarter healthier.
  • Below half health the Cinderroc rages (faster swings, more fire, and its fire can now KILL — players and companions alike); below a quarter it is at its most dangerous.
  • Cinderrocs now roost anywhere in the world on land, hold a whole walk circle (300 m), rise again 8 hours after being killed somewhere new, and fly off to a new home if they win a fight and nobody is left to face them. They no longer appear on the Events tab.
  • Once a day a Cinderroc hunts: it lands inside a random flag of a random active player (account at least 30 days old, seen in the last 10 days), strikes the flag once, and mails the owner "Your flag has been attacked by a Cinderroc." with a Travel There button. If the owner doesn't come to that flag within 12 hours the bird leaves.
  • Every character now has a saved look (skin tone, hairstyle and colour, expression, shirt, trousers and shoes). Everyone starts with the default look for their gender; hairstyles are split by gender.
  • Mayors can build a Looking Glass in their city. Anyone standing next to it can change their look for 1,000 crowns, paid into that city's treasury.
  • Log Cabins have a chest spot: the owner builds a chest there for 20 wood; it holds up to 500 kg of stored items, and everything in it spills onto the doorstep if the cabin is destroyed.
  • Fixed: building a chest inside your cabin could answer "The world is rebalancing" every time, when the cabin and its room happened to be looked after by different parts of the server. The server now looks up where the cabin lives instead of assuming it is next door.
  • Fixed: signs could briefly appear huge, and fountains and statues as a small ornament over a flag, on ground near the border between two parts of the server.
  • The game can now stream background music from the server, so new songs arrive without an app update.
  • The Log Cabin's top-right doorway now leads into the War Room, a second room of your cabin. Logging off, relogging, leaving or being kicked out works there exactly as it does in the main room.
  • In the War Room the cabin's owner can build the Upgrade Bench for 100 wood and 40 iron.
  • The Upgrade Bench sells upgrades for crowns, and they belong to your account (you keep them if your cabin is destroyed): Chest Space (+500 kg for 100,000 crowns, nine times, up to 5,000 kg), Tower Capacity (up to 10 personal towers, 20,000 to 250,000 crowns each), Tower Health (up to 2,500 HP, 50,000 to 250,000 crowns each) and Tower Damage (up to +5 damage, 100,000 to 1,000,000 crowns each).
  • Personal towers: turn one of your own hardened flags into a tower for 40 wood and 20 stone (harden the flag first, and you need a free slot of Tower Capacity from the Upgrade Bench). It stays your flag for travel, access and fees, starts with 500 health, shoots players on your enemy list and creatures attacking you within 150 m for 5 damage, and shows in your Travel list while it stands. When a tower kills a creature, its loot drops on the ground as usual and its crowns go to the tower's owner. Siege golems can shell the towers of their owner's enemies.
  • One account plays on one device at a time: signing in on another device logs the old device out, on any server.

Client

  • Desktop: the game is zoomed out to show almost the entire walk circle (about 92% of it); phones keep their closer framing.
  • Characters are drawn from the new artwork: skin tone, hairstyle and hair colour, expression, shirt, trousers and shoes, with armour, shields (now visible), weapons, masks and hats layered on top. Two people standing on the same spot no longer draw each other's gear over their bodies.
  • The Looking Glass: tap one to open a full-screen mirror with Skin, Hair, Face and Clothes tabs and a live preview of your character; confirm to change your look for 1,000 crowns. Mayors find it in the Build menu.
  • The Wolf Mask tucks under the Plumed Cavalier Hat properly instead of poking its ears through the brim.
  • The Royal Breastplate is a full suit of armour now: it replaces your whole outfit on screen instead of showing your shirt and shoes around its edges.
  • Changing a weapon or piece of gear no longer makes your character's gear vanish for a moment; the new look appears in one step.
  • The game downloads gear and decoration pictures while it loads, so they are ready before you see them.
  • After a teleport the view waits a moment for the buildings and creatures at your destination, instead of letting them pop in one by one.
  • A building that turns out to be a different kind (for example a sign or a fountain) redraws itself correctly straight away.
  • The Build menu no longer offers a Log Cabin, workshop, station, yard, Trade Hub or Looking Glass you (or your city) already have once you've walked out of sight of it.
  • Inside your Log Cabin, tap the chest spot to build a chest (20 wood). Open it to store items from your bag (up to 500 kg) and take them back out.
  • Music! The login screen has its own song, each continent (and the open ocean) has its own playlist that mixes in songs from the whole world, and a Cinderroc in your walk circle brings its own battle music. Songs fade into each other, and there is a short quiet spell between songs while you explore.
  • Settings has a new Volume tab: master volume, music volume, and a switch to turn the music off. The music steps aside when you are already listening to another app.
  • Songs download in the background the first time and stay on your device, so they never download twice.
  • Inside your Log Cabin, tap the top-right doorway to walk into the War Room, and the War Room's own doorway to walk back. Your following companions come with you.
  • In the War Room, tap the build sign to build the Upgrade Bench (100 wood, 40 iron). The finished bench then shows for everyone who visits.
  • Tap your Upgrade Bench to open its upgrade card: every upgrade shows a level bar, what you have now and what the next level gives, its price and a Buy button. Buy is greyed out when you don't have enough crowns, a fully bought upgrade says Maxed, and the card fits on small phones.
  • Your own hardened flags offer "Upgrade to Personal Tower" while you have a free tower slot (unhardened flags don't show the button), and a personal tower is drawn as a stone tower.
  • If your account is signed in on another device, this device shows "Signed In Elsewhere" instead of reconnecting, with Play on This Device and Sign Out. Maintenance and restart disconnects now show their proper message too.
